A Day to Remember
“Hey Jackie and Julia” said Miss Astana, “Are you ready to practice today?” “Yes, we are said Jackie.” Julia and Jackie put on their dance shoes and started to practice their dance routine. While they were practicing the mail man dropped off the mail. Miss Astana went over to the mail and looked to see what was there; she was looking through it and had the biggest smile on her face. The girls walked over to her to see why she was so happy. “You just were invited to the Venezuela dance competition!” The girls were so happy that they get to go to Venezuela. Miss Astana interrupted their excitement, “The competition is in two weeks.” Miss Astana wasn’t sure, but the girls couldn’t wait. The girls were reminded that they would need to work extremely hard on their dance routine.
When the girls got to their houses, they told their parents about the news. Their parents were proud of them but not sure if they could handle this big task.
During the next weeks the girls couldn’t stop thinking about the trip to Venezuela. They were so excited and happy that they had their mind other places and things, and completely forgot their dance routine. Miss. Astana was not happy with the girls dance performance and hoped it would get better.
The days went by so fast that before they new it, it was the day before they had to leave for their dance competition. It was the morning of, they all said there good byes and got on the ship to Venezuela. They were on there way to a new adventure.
While on the ship the girls ran around like they were four again. When they got off on the first dock they thought that it would be fun to look around the town. While they were walking, Julia looked at Jackie and asked, “What time did the skipper on the ship say to be back at?’ “Twelve” Jackie said. Puzzled Julia looked at her watch, “It’s twelve fifteen!” The girls looked at each other and started running like they were trying to catch a runaway horse. When they got to the dock, the ship had left with their luggage and everything else. The girls were shocked, the ship had left without them. They went to the first person they saw and asked if he would be so kind to take them to Venezuela. The man was glad to; he was already heading in that direction. The girls were so happy, they hurriedly looked for a new dance outfit. They were on their way once again.
Night fall came and they were getting ready for bed, when a loud boom of thunder shook the boat. The man who had let them get on board came down in a panic, “We are going into a storm, stay tight.” The girls hearts were pounding with fear, were they going to make it? The waves were crashing into and onto the boat. Julia was scared but Jackie was trying to stay valiant. Miss Astana went up on deck to see just how bad it was, when she go to the top a wave crumbled her to the ground. She hit her leg on a wooden board and couldn’t move it. Jackie came up on deck, when she saw Miss Astana laying there she went to her. “Are you alright?” Jackie asked, “Yes I’m fine but I hurt my leg” Miss Astana replied. Jackie helped her up, but had difficulty getting her to their cabin because of the always crashing waves. When they got to their cabin Jackie was frozen to the bone and Julia was scared. “Are you alright Miss Astana?” “Yes, I’m fine” Miss Astana said. She sat down with a groan and a twinge of pain went though her left leg. The girls looked worried but Miss Astana assured them she was fine. The girls and Miss Astana were so drowsy that night that they fell right to sleep.
The next morning they awoke to silence. The man came down and said, “You guys look tired, have a long night?” They smiled and asked, “Where are we? One mile away from Venezuela” the man answered. Jackie and Julia’s eyes popped out of their head, they were so excited that they were almost there. The girls came up on deck to look at God’s beauty, they were both so thankful to be alive. While they were sitting there they say dolphins jumping up next to the boat, they were amazed how high they were jumping. Julia and Jackie were talking when the man said, “Here we are.” The girls jumped out of their chairs to see the beautiful country that it was. “What time is it? Asked Jackie “One-thirty,” the man replied. “We only have thirty minutes to get to the competition” Miss Astana replied. They ran to where the competition was to be held, and immediately started to practice.
People started to show up and it was five minutes to show time. They were fifth in line, and there was ten performances in all. The host came on stage and introduced the first performance. After the forth contestant, it was Julia and Jackie’s turn. The host introduced them and they began dancing. By the time the dance was over, Jackie was out of breath and tired. The rest of the contestants performed and it was finally at the end of all the performances. The host excitedly spoke, “Ladies and gentleman it is now time to announce our winner.” The host opened the sealed envelope and pulled out a piece of paper and said, “First place winner is…..” (Julia and Jackie’s heart was pounding with anticipation) “Venezuela!!” The girls went from a smile to a sad look, they had not gotten first. But, the host continued, “Second place goes to America!” Jackie and Julia smiled and came on stage. They were given flowers and than they bowed. Disappointed and sad, they went to Miss. Astana, and said, “We thought we could win.” Miss Astana said, “Oh, it’s OK girls, you got second place. You did great out there.” She continued, “Did you do your best?” The girls answered, “Yes we did.”
When they got back home they were greeted by their parents. They were happy to see them, and took Jackie and Julia home. The girls will never forget that day that they were invited to the Venezuela dance competition.
